Evolution of five minute crafts

1. Where did it come from/original inspiration

1.1 bite sized content that anyone can follow

1.2 Easily accessible

1.3 actually helpful

2. Spread by the algorithm: The downfall of informative craft technique sharing - paralleled to the commodification of knowledge and skill

2.1 Over saturation of the market

2.2 Quantity of quality takes over

2.3 This is the begging of a solidified aesthetic

3 'craft' loses meaning

3.1 videos show random diy content such as dying hair with a hot glue gun, taping glasses to forehead so they dont fall on you while your drawing eyeliner

3.2 fetishization of hot glue

4. time loses meaning

4.1 less than 5 minutes

---videos show something that can be finished before the video is even completed - ie taping something to the wall (30 seconds max)

4.1 more than five minutes

---some videos show things like growing a tree from a rotten banana - this would take multiple weeks

A. 2, 3, 4 have caused the 5MC movement to skew from original goals, now exists only for views, etc

A.1 Videos become more and more loose in definition, taking liberties in almost all advertised aspects of the videos

5 The creation of problems

5.1 Out of touch assumptions of the problems everyday people encounter

5.2 completely incoherent problems that do not exist (ie. taping glasses to head instead of taking them off and putting back on later)

5.3 'solutions' actually create more problems then they solve

5.4 etc ( i think there's infinite directions 4 could go)

5.n in summary: the content creator is in no way concerned with the betterment of communities and is instead taking advantage of everyone for self gain

6 spread of false information

6.1 Using video editing to lie to and mislead the masses

showing techniques that simply do not work, and presenting an alternate solution - for example i saw a video on how to remove warts, they placed a paper towel on this guys face, then skipped ahead and the video was full of chia seeds (implying the paper towel absorbed skin stuff), then it skipped ahead to a blurred out version of the face so there where no pores at all

B. 5, 6 and topics mentioned in A show an increased interest in absurdity

B.1 Absurdity is the driving force

B.2 Suspension of disbelief
